Tips To Declutter And Organize Your Home

Sometimes it can be overwhelming to look at the stacks of papers and piles of clutter in your home and think about getting organized. And that’s the problem, home organizers suggest. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed:
  • Start small – Don’t plan to organize the whole house in a day. Start with one closet, one drawer, or one small area you really want to re-purpose.
  • Schedule the time – Put aside a block of time every day or once or twice a week – and reward yourself however you wish for sticking to your schedule.
  • Decide how you want to use the space – Before you tackle each area, know how you wish to use the space.
  • Get prepped – Have a whisk broom, some rags and a vacuum cleaner handy to clean the newly uncluttered space before you fill it. Also have handy at least three cardboard cartons; one for trash, one for donations or garage sale items, and one for the items, such as books or stationery supplies, that you plan to put back in that space.
  • Dump, sort and shovel – It’s encouraging to see the top of your desk again or to see empty space in a closet. So remove every stack of paper from the desktop or take all unwanted clothing out of the closet. If it’s a drawer you’re organizing, dump everything out of it. Then sort through each pile of stuff or stack of paperwork to decide what you really need to keep and where you plan to keep it.
  • Shine it up – A space that’s been cluttered may not have been cleaned since you first started dumping stuff into it. Clean and vacuum the space thoroughly before you start putting things back.
  • Save what you want where it should be – Once you’ve sorted through the stuff in any given place, decide where it really should go – and get up and put it there, even if it’s in another room, before you start putting stuff back.
  • Put tools and cartons where they need to be – Throw out the trash, call for donation pick-up or deliver to the nearest thrift shop – and unless you really plan to have a garage sale, be ruthless about what goes! Then look around and smile – and schedule time to tackle another area.

Happy Endings

Seven months ago I left my business card on his door, he called me and told me after 15 years of renting he was ready to become a home owner again. It took 6 months to build his credit to the point of qualifying for a loan. A few days after we started looking at homes his landlord told him he needed to move out by the 28th. We found him a home three weeks before his deadline to move out. Thanks to an awesome lender and great title co. we were able to get everything done by the 25th and today he gets to move into his home. I love happy endings.

4 Fun Thanksgiving Traditions

1. Make the entire month about gratitude. Have your family write down what they're thankful for each day, and put it in a jar. On Thanksgiving Day, read everything in that jar.

2. Make your own placemats. Get 11x14 paper, have your kids decorate, laminate, then use them as placemats.

3. At the dinner table, have each person say what they're grateful for about the person sitting to the left of them.

4. Have a themed Thanksgiving dinner. Have all your guests dress Hawaiian, Western, Midieva ect.

Should I Stage My Home Before Putting it on the Market?

Yes!  Make sure you follow these easy tips before putting your home on the market...

Keeping the house spotless

Family and friends always notice spots, scuffs, and stains around your house. Make sure your buyers don't!

Make use of mirrors

Strategically placed mirrors can create the illusion that the room is larger than it actually is. People tend to notice small details that help sell the various rooms in your homes.

Don't skip over the minute details

One of the many challenges of home staging is that since you've lived in your house for so long, you tend to gloss over the small details you've grown used to over the years. Chase down every detail and ensure that it's taken care of.

Remember to stage outdoor areas

The first impression buyers make on your home is outside the home. Make sure to keep your yard top notch!

10 Great Reasons To Sell Your House During The Holidays

1. People are more serious about buying during the holidays. They have fewer houses to choose  from, and there's less competition.

2. There will be less demand for your home, since the supply and demands will increase in January.

3. Houses show better when decorated for the holidays.

4. Since buyers are more emotional during the holidays, they are more inclined to buy at your price.

5. Buyers have more time to look during the holidays.

6. Some people buy at the end of the year for tax purposes.

7. January is the month where new employees start new jobs. Since transferred can't wait until spring to buy a house, you must be on the market during the holidays to capture the market.

8. You can still be on the market, but you have the option to restrict showings during the six or seven days during the holidays.

9. You can sell now for more money, and we will provide for a delayed closing or extended occupancy until early next year.

10. By selling now, you may have an opportunity to be a non-contingent buyer during the spring when many more houses are on the market for less money. This will allow you to sell high and buy low.

4. Change out batteries in smoke detectors
5. Clean out dryer vent for lint.

10 Things To Do Before Selling Your Home

1. Get rid of any extra furniture- This means that any furniture that doesn’t serve a real, functional purpose needs to go. It can be sold, or just in storage, but it needs to get out of the house. You want as much of your space shown as you can.
2. Hide the toys- Before taking any listing photos or showing your house, hide the toys! Unless there is a designated area used as a playroom, toys need to be hidden. Buyers want the spaces they are looking at to feel fresh, clean, and grown up.
3. Open doors- Be sure to open all of your interior doors before taking photos and showing your house. In photos, it helps the photos flow together so that the potential buyers can understand the layout of the home more easily. When showing, you don’t want any big surprises. The potential buyers need to be able to easily walk from one room to the next.
4. Turn on lights- When showing your home, turn on all of the lights before you leave. This is especially the case if your house has light switches in strange places. The last thing you want the potential buyers to do, is search for your light switches. By having the lights on, it makes the home feel brighter and more cozy.
5. Good smells- The smell of your home will be one of the very first things that the potential buyers register in their brains when looking at your home. Be sure it is a good smell!
6. Take good photos- Chances are, the first impression of your house will be by the photos that potential buyers will see on your listing. Make sure they are good! There are so many times I see pictures that have awkward angles that make the rooms look much smaller than they are. There are also several listing photos out there with clutter all over the place! Potential buyers want to look at photos of a clean house. Pay attention to detail when taking photos.
7. Fix up the curb appeal- This doesn’t mean that your front yard needs an entire makeover, but make sure that it looks warm and inviting. Plant some flowers, fix your fence, and mow your lawn. It is the little things that really make a difference.  Please look at my other blogs to get more information on improving the curb appeal of your home.
8. Clear off counter tops- Nobody wants to look at clutter. Put your bread and bananas in the cupboard before your house is shown. You want potential buyers to feel like there is plenty of counter space. While you are at it, take down the cutter off of your fridge to make your kitchen feel fresh and clean.
9. Clean doors- You don’t realize just how dirty your doors are until you start scrubbing them down! Clean the doorknobs to make sure they aren’t sticky and make sure there aren’t dirty fingerprints all over the door. It is a small detail that most people won’t notice unless they are dirty most likely. You don’t want potential buyers to notice dirty doors.
10. Clean your windows- There is so much dirt, dust, and who knows what else that gets stuck to windows. Clean them inside and out. It is amazing to see how much more light comes through when the windows are clean. It makes the entire room feel cleaner too.

Fire at Olympus Jr High

A fire broke out today at Olympus Jr. High.

Unified Fire Authority officials said a curtain in the auditorium of Olympus Junior High School caught fire, and the blaze was extinguished by the school’s sprinkler system, which filled the auditorium with smoke.
Ben Horsley, Granite School District spokesman, said initial reports indicate that damages were minor. He said school officials are assessing the scene and school will be held as scheduled Friday.
Fox 13 news reported.

First time home buyer

This young man bought his first home last month.
Here is what he had to say about his experience:

Shauna helped me purchase my first home in sugar house. She stayed on top of everything during the process and was punctual throughout, letting me know what forms to sign and what the process would entail. She helped me with understanding the terms and what was expected of me. I am very happy with everything and its all thanks to her efforts. She was professional at all times. I have no complaints at all and I highly recommend her.
